“Fishnets and Film” was created by Queer Artist (& Drag Queen) Robby Kendall (AKA Ms Sweet Nothing).
After completion of Kendall’s first film “Drag Queens Must Die!” in 2021, Kendall decided to produce a Drag Show and embed his film in the show as ‘one of the acts’. He brought in a red carpet and step-and-repeat to give his friends and guests some Hollywood style. And he and his team called it “Fishnets and Film”. “F&F” launched in San Diego at Number One on Fifth in September 2021 and then at The Port Bar in Oakland, CA (December 2021). Both shows were well-attended with amazing line-ups of Drag Queens.
Each time the red carpet rolled out and folks (and sponsors) grew excited about this unique idea, Kendall and his production team members discussed this concept ~ “Fishnets and Film” ~ and decided to screen films from other artists and filmmakers. Kendall found many other venue owners/managers interested in hosting a “F&F” and, within his bandwidth, secured venues in Emeryville CA, Portland OR, & St. Paul MN to launch their own “Fishnets” this calendar year (2022).
As “Fishnets” continued to grow, Kendall expanded the concept to become part in-person and part online. After each in-person event, a week-long online film festival will follow allowing world-wide access to all the amazing films that were Officially Selected. “Fishnets and Film” is currently listed publicly on Filmfreeway, attracting film submissions from all over the world.
